Melanie Hendrix has been teaching K-12 in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida for over 30 years. She currently teaches in Pensacola, FL (AP US History, Honors/Regular U.S. History, Economics) and sponsors the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society. She is on the Board of Directors for FCSS (Florida Council for Social Studies) and is involved in Delta Kappa Gamma and Alpha Delta Kappa teacher societies. Mrs. Hendrix has been awarded the Excellence in Teaching History Teacher of the Year Award for the state of Florida (2019), the George Washington Medal of Honor (2022), the Florida National History Day Teacher of the Year (2023), and was a finalist in National History Day’s Behring Teacher of the Year (2023). When not working, she enjoys traveling, football, and baseball (Auburn, Braves, KC Chiefs). Visiting Point Barrow, AK (in the summer) is at the top of her bucket list.
