Dr. Jennie Yi is currently the District Social Studies Chair at Hewlett-Woodmere Schools in New York. She began her teaching career in the New York City DOE high school and later taught at Great Neck Public Schools. Dr. Yi taught all levels of 7-12 social studies during her 24 years as a teacher, but her area of specialty was in AP Macro and Microeconomics. Dr. Yi worked with students with diverse interests, backgrounds, and skills, including ELLs and students with disabilities. As Director of Humanities and District Social Studies Chair, Dr. Yi established the NYSED Seal of Civic Readiness pathways, introduced the Social Studies Honor Society Rho Kappa, and developed community and family engagement initiatives, including Family Literacy Night and Heritage Celebrations. Dr. Yi also taught education courses at CUNY Queens College and served as a field supervisor for NYU TESOL candidates. Dr. Yi is a passionate advocate for equitable education, mentoring teachers to become reflective, culturally responsive, and effective educators dedicated to lifelong learning.
