When Beth Douma began teaching, she made paper copies that smelled so good on a mimeograph machine. Report cards were on paper, and pencil sharpeners were attached to the walls. It’s no wonder she ended her 30+ year career teaching history! A middle school ‘lifer’, Beth has taught 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in urban middle schools in Houston, TX and Denver, CO since 1991. After teaching language arts and English Language Development to amazing students who were new to the country, Beth finished her career in her dream position of teaching U.S. History. It was late in her career that she discovered the magic that is Founding Forward summer teacher seminars, and she hopes to share her love of summer learning with others. After retiring in 2024, Beth immediately returned to education as a substitute teacher to support her peers. Beth hopes to share her love for civics, history, & Founding Forward with other teachers in the Mountain Time Zone who do not know what they are missing! Beth has served on the teacher advisory board for George Washington’s Mount Vernon and loves to discover new history museums whenever she gets a chance.
