Library Hour: The Legacy of JFK

Date & Time

|

6:00 PM

Description

Over 60 years after his assassination, Americans continue to debate John F. Kennedy’s legacy. Kennedy’s assassination produced an outpouring of grief seldom matched in American history and led to decades of distorted accounts of his abbreviated presidency. Nonetheless, while the “Camelot” myth has dissipated in the decades since JFK’s death, historian Dr. Stephen Knott contends that Kennedy left a lasting impact on the American presidency and the nation.

Knott has spent his life grappling with JFK’s legacy. He will discuss his effort to find the real President Kennedy, not the one so many worshipped in their youth, nor the one whose principles were distorted by ideologues and family courtiers. Despite the existence of over 40,000 titles dealing with the man and his era, Knott’s biography Coming to Terms with John F. Kennedy has something new to say about a presidency that mattered and mattered deeply according to the author.
