Library Hour: George Washington and His World

Date & Time

October 8, 2026

|

6:00 PM
- 7:30 PM

Description

Following his death in December 1799, writers, artists, and eulogists hailed George Washington as if he were a deity. Washington filled numerous roles in the founding era – revolutionary, slave owner, father of American liberty, and nemesis of Native American communities. As part of the America250 celebrations at the League, Founding Forward welcomes historian Denver Brunsman for a program that combines the latest historical findings with original primary research. Brunsman provides a new understanding of Washington’s rise and influence by focusing on the people and society who made the first president’s accomplishments possible. In this compelling, fresh portrait of America’s indispensable founder, the canvas is broadened to include not only Washington, but his world and surroundings, so readers might better understand his legacy.

This program will be hosted in-person at the League House. Registration is required. As this program will occur before the publication of George Washington and His World, the speaker will sign book plates rather than books.

Reception: 6:00pm
Program: 6:30pm
End of Program: 7:30pm

Streaming: Unless requested otherwise by the speaker, Founding Forward programs are streamed via YouTube. Click here to find the livestream (live at 6:30pm the day of the event). Virtual viewing does not require registration.
