Public Affairs: Energy Markets and National Security

Speaker:

Richard Mroz, Toby Rice, Lisa Crutchfield, and Victoria Hughes

Date & Time

September 12, 2024

6:00 PM

Description

Long-term energy security is a necessary but elusive national policy priority, complicated by geopolitical challenges such as the wars in Ukraine and Israel, increasing global demand in the developing world, and the politics of climate science. Rolling brownouts in California and the inability of Texas utilities to provide adequate power during a 2021 winter storm both demonstrate domestic concerns as well. In Pennsylvania, the natural gas industry, located mainly in the western Marcellus Shale region, contributes $41 billion annually in economic activity and employs over 100,000 individuals in the Commonwealth. New technologies – including renewables like solar, wind, and hydrogen- continue to develop but have their own hurdles to overcome. Join Richard Mroz of Archer Public Affairs, a member of the US Department of Energy’s Electric Advisory Committee, Toby Rice, President and CEO of EQT Corporation, Lisa Crutchfield of Hudson Strategic Advisors, and former US Department of Energy official Victoria Hughes for this panel discussion.
