Civil War Round Table: Lincoln & the American Revolution

Date & Time

June 24, 2026

|

6:00 PM

Description

To Abraham Lincoln, the Revolution was the pivotal event of American history. When slavery and secession threatened to pull the nation apart, Lincoln looked to the Declaration of Independence as the source of a unified American identity. The relationship between the Declaration and the Constitution played a major role in Lincoln’s political philosophy: in his words: “an apple of gold” framed in a “picture of silver.”

As part of the America250 celebrations at the League, Founding Forward welcomes back Dr. Allen Guelzo, Professor of Humanities at the Hamilton School for Classical and Civic Education at the University of Florida, League member, and Founding Forward Senior Fellow, to discuss Lincoln and the Declaration. Guelzo is one of the country’s most accomplished Civil War historians and a foremost Lincoln scholar.

This program will be hosted in-person at Liberty Hill. Registration is required. Copies of Our Ancient Faith: Lincoln, Democracy, and the American Experiment will be available for purchase.
