Public Affairs: Artificial Intelligence: Issues and Concerns with Ben Cheatham, Philip Moyer, and Martin Stanley

Date & Time

November 19, 2024

|

6:00 PM

Description

The public release of ChatGPT launched an era of intense public attention on AI, transforming the technology from futuristic possibilities to everyday applications. As companies rush to implement AI, concern has increased over what safeguards are necessary. Just recently, the FutureTech group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology listed 700 potential risks, including deepfake technology, over-reliance on AI and reduction of critical thinking, and more. This spring saw Google’s Gemini AI image generator create wildly inaccurate renderings of historic moments featuring people of color and women in roles held by white men, leading to accusations of woke programming. Learn from a panel of experts what constitutes true AI, what impact it will have on businesses, and what changes it promises to make on society. Ben Cheatham, Senior Director and Tax Counsel at Invenergy, Philip Moyer, CEO at Vimeo, and Martin Stanley, AI and Cybersecurity Researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, will look beyond the hype to explain the real nature of AI.

Villanova University’s Charles Widger School of Law will offer Continuing Law Education credits for attending.
