The American Founding

This past weekend, we celebrated the 249th anniversary of the birth of our nation. A nation created based on the philosophy that all men are created equal, as articulated in the Declaration of Independence, and on political principles set forth in the Constitution. These remarkable documents were created over the course of 11 years, spanning from 1776 to 1787. But they were not created in a vacuum – these documents were the result of more than 2,000 years of Western Civilization.

In a recent program with Perspective Matters, Founding Forward President John Meko and Founding Forward Senior Fellow Joe Loconte explore some of the most important ideas and moments that led to the creation of the United States. Meko and Loconte make the case that an understanding of Western Civilization and philosophy is an important part in understanding our nation’s founding principles.
